You can't go to Yankee Stadium and train with the Yankees or go to Madison Square Garden and shoot hoops with the Knicks. Boxing is the only sport where you can actually train next to champions and top contenders. Gleason's, Brooklyn's legendary boxing gym, posts a sign that reads: "Now whoever has courage, and a strong and collected spirit in his breast, let him come forth, lace up his gloves, and put up his hands."
Offered is a one-of-a-kind experience at the last great boxing landmark in New York, a hard-core gym where you can smell the history in the sweat of dozens of the world's greatest boxers. In an intensive one-hour workout, one of Gleason's great group of trainers will coach you on developing quickness, timing and strength, stamina and coordination. You will use the jump rope, then lace up a pair of Everlast gloves and put on a trainer's mitt for workouts on the speed bag, heavy bag, uppercut bag, and double-end bag.
About Gleason's Gym
Its name is almost synonymous with the sport of boxing. Founded in 1937 by a flyweight fighter Bobby Gleason, the gym quickly earned a reputation as the training ground for hundreds of professional and amateur boxing champions. Gleason's is an old-school place where tough but loveable trainers can remember the days when Jake LaMotta honed his punches on Gleason's heavy bags and Muhammed Ali trained for his fight with Sonny Liston. Hilary Swank was thorough in the physical preparation for her role in Million Dollar Baby, training at Gleason's, six days a week for three months.
