Get in Touch with Your Inner Samurai.
One cannot truly understand the ancient code and practices of the Samurai warrior without learning the "way of the sword." In feudal Japan, the Samurai's sword was more than his weapon, it was his life, his honor, and his character.

Iaido (pronounced ee-eye-doh), which translates as "the way of the sword," is a modern discipline that has evolved from real Japanese sword fighting techniques. It is based on authentic skills, handed down over generations, which focus on how to draw the blade quickly from its scabbard and cut down the opponent in one motion. Iaido requires balance, awareness, concentration and grace, and uses the sword to unify the body and mind. It is designed to build one's internal power — something that was highly valued in warriors of old — as well as to develop the accuracy of deadly strikes in which no movement is wasted. Iaido teaches respect and self-control as it develops the practitioner's mastery over himself as well as over his opponent.

The exclusive experience takes place over a half-day at Brooklyn Aikikai, a traditional dojo dedicated to Japanese martial arts. The private one-on-one session reveals the true spirit of this art in weapons etiquette, conditioning of the body, sword drawing and cutting. Since many warriors, past and present, engage in the spiritual practice of meditation in order to still the mind and train their awareness, two Zen practice periods will be included, ensuring a meditative and reflective mindset designed to allow the Iaidoka to contemplate life and death and consider compassion in the use of a sword.

Traditional Iaido dress, sword and other training tools will be provided. Fine Japanese green tea and sweets will end the session, providing a refreshing end to the intensive training.
