Russia's dominance in modern chess was founded on a uniquely successful program of chess instruction. Now you can increase your skill and understanding of the game with the tactics and strategies that have produced a long line of Soviet champions.
Whether you are a beginner who wants to learn how the pieces move or a seasoned player who wants to master the King's Indian Defense, this private 2-hour chess tutorial will take your game to the next level. You will have the rare opportunity to play the game with Grand Master Lev Alburt, one of the world's best chess players, a brilliant theoretician, and, most important, a very good teacher who is willing to share his wisdom.
The experience begins with a ten minute introductory telephone conversation with Mr. Alburt, during which he will become familiar with both the level of your game and your learning objectives. He will use this information to thoroughly design and prepare a lesson specifically for you, one in which you will derive maximum benefit.
Next, you will meet at the Grand Master's home in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where you receive face-to-face instruction in practical, educational strategies, hard-hitting openings, and classic attack and defense tactics. These exercises will test and sharpen your game, boost confidence and build enthusiasm.
There are no age restrictions or exclusions. The lesson addresses all levels of play, from novice/beginner, up to expert. At the end of the session, you will receive one of Mr. Alburt’s books, autographed personally by the Grand Master himself.
A theoretical physicist before he became a chess professional, Mr. Alburt defected from the Soviet Union in 1979 and quickly established himself as one of the strongest players in the country, winning many strong tournaments such as the 1982 Reykjavik International. In 1984, he won the first of his three United States chess championships. He earned the title in 1985 and again in 1990. One of his special interests is opening theory, of which he has written repeatedly. Mr. Alburt is one of the world's most sought-after chess teachers, famous for providing aspiring players easy access to master-level ideas. He devotes his chess life to teaching, writing and publishing, and The Comprehensive Chess Course, which he co-authored, is an all-time bestseller.
