New York is the heart of America's stand-up comedy scene, and, located in vibrant Times Square, Caroline's on Broadway is the city's premier comedy nightclub. In addition to featuring headliners such as Jeanine Garofalo, Andrew Dice Clay, Colin Quinn, Gilbert Gottfried, Steven Wright, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Larry David, Caroline's is dedicated to promoting and showcasing rising stars and new comedy talent.
This unique experience, a 5-day intensive workshop at the world-famous American Comedy Institute, culminates in an on-stage appearance at Caroline's on Broadway where you showcase your comedy talent in a 5-minute performance.
Under the direction of award-winning comedy director and writer Stephen Rosenfield, you will turn your funny ideas and stories into stand-up comedy material, learn the structures of comedy writing, and develop your own comedy persona. Mr. Rosenfield will help you write your comedy material in private writing sessions. In group classes he will guide your performance. His ability to bring out each performer's own, individual comic voice is a reason that his students are performing in every club in N.Y. and L.A., across the country and around the world.
The workshop is conducted so that when it's time for your club appearance you will have solidly written, funny material and you will be well-rehearsed and ready to perform at your peak and beyond. The experience is offered to both beginning and advanced performers. You don't need to have written or performed before. All you need is a sense of humor and the desire to make people laugh.
The experience is also valuable for the public speaker who will learn to effectively use humor to engage and entertain his or her audience. Your new skill for stand-up comedy will invigorate your messages and keep your audiences with you.
Following four classes and two private writing sessions, you showcase your talent in a 5-minute performance at Caroline's. You are encouraged to invite friends and family to join the club's audience, and, so you will always remember your Broadway debut, you will receive a videotape or DVD of your stand-up comedy performance.
Considered to be the foremost stand-up comedy instructor in North America, Mr. Rosenfield is the founder and director of the American Comedy Institute and the producer/director of comedy shows at Carolines, Stand-Up NY, The Comic Strip, and the Improv. He coaches and directs performers ranging from beginners to Emmy and Tony Award-winning and Oscar-nominated star talent. His students have appeared on The David Letterman Show, The Conan O'Brien Show, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Comedy Central Presents, HBO, A&E's Caroline's Comedy Hour, The Apollo Comedy Hour, MTV and VH-1, The Aspen, Montreal and Toyota Comedy Festivals, and The Edinburgh Festival. He directed and co-authored the Obie Award-winning musical comedy review, The Present Tense. He has directed at the Roundabout Theater, The Ensemble Studio Theater, The Actor's Studio, and Manhattan Class Company. He received the Los Angeles Drama-Logue Award and a Robby nomination for his direction of the musical, Charlie and Algernon.
