Unlock your creative potential and open a door to the joy of art, as New York artist Gamble Staempfli shares his own joy, knowledge, and experience. No art background or skill is required, just bring your enthusiasm and desire to learn.

The one-on-one instruction is valuable for the complete beginner who doubts that he or she has a single creative bone in their body, as they discover new skills in a relaxed environment. With improvement and encouragement during progressive stages, your professional artist/instructor will motivate you to develop understanding and skills in art. He will uncover tricks of the trade through simple exercises with pencil, charcoal, or pastels and teach you to see and think like an artist.

It's an experience just as valuable for the person who is confident with his or her current artistic abilities, but would love to be tutored by an expert. Improve and advance your representational drawing skills (drawing what you see) by exploring techniques used by the masters.

As a student you may play an active role in how the lesson is run. For instance, if you have a favorite object or photograph, you can work from those things, plus if you like landscape, the figure, or still life, the lesson will be tailored to specifically meet your interests.

The 3-hour lesson takes place either in the artist's studio in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn or in your New York City residence. (Studio lessons benefit from the added interest of seeing the artist's personal work). In either environment, Gamble uses his encouraging nature and passion, as well as his uncanny ability to articulate the principals of representational art to students at all levels of experience. About Gamble Staempfli
As the son of George Staempfli, president of Staempfli Gallery (1959-1992), Gamble was exposed growing up to all kinds of art, and through those experiences has acquired a diverse and thorough belief in its power to transform. He earned a BFA in painting from Bard College, which also awarded him the Jane Yacenda Fromm Scholarship, for those who "combine technical innovation with love of craft," then graduated cum laude with a degree in painting from the New York Academy of Art. While working toward his graduate degree, Gamble was the only non- faculty member selected to co-author/illustrate the "Go Figure" curriculum, a course of figurative arts training designed to meet the needs of underserved New York City public high school students. Teaching art is natural to Gamble, and since completing his master's degree, he has taught drawing, sculpture, painting and pastel drawing at the 92nd Street Y and the Educational Alliance. His own work has been shown in a variety of group exhibitions in and around the New York area, and is held in many US and international private collections. He was recently interviewed on NPR's "Studio 360."
