Short films are becoming much more common in popular culture and many important names in directing and acting are starting to work within this subcategory of film. The viewing public, in a never-ending quest to find unique programming to watch, has finally discovered the quirky, exciting short film.
You will have the opportunity to bring your own idea for a dramatic scene, comedy sketch, documentary, art or music video, or other original concept to life in a 5-minute short film. You become the star of your own motion picture, as you work one-one-one with high-profile actor/filmmaker Eric Thal through the entire process from conceptualization to post production (up to 10 hours total).
The collaboration begins with “pitching” an idea for brainstorming/discussion, followed by scriptwriting, rehearsal, shooting, editing, and finally, conversion of video medium to DVD (including additional “behind the scenes” footage of rehearsal and deleted scenes). The only limit is your own imagination. Every short film can and should be your unique vision.
As producer, Eric will work within a number of creative options. If you have a completed script, he will shoot it as written; he will collaborate on the development of your own idea or script; or he will provide an original concept and write your scene.
You might be pursuing a career in filmmaking and want to demonstrate your skills or test out a feature film idea on a small scale first. A short film script can be a great calling card for a writer, or the opportunity for a film credit on the way to building a successful acting career. Perhaps you need a creative music video to showcase your band or promote your latest song or CD release. Participants should have an interest in making a compelling short film, in learning how films are structured, and a desire to
plug into their own creativity.
He has been working in the entertainment industry for over 15 years. After several years of studying acting in New York and working in commercials, Eric auditioned for a small role in Sidney Lumet's film A Stranger Among Us (1992). Lumet was so impressed by the young actor, the director cast him in the leading role as a Hasidic scholar, playing opposite Melanie Griffith. He went on to play a variety of characters in other films after this, often unrecognizable from one role to the next. He played a police officer in The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag (1992), followed by Six Degrees of Separation (1993), as a young man from Utah who moves to New York and meets a con artist (Will Smith). He later co-starred as Donald Sutherland's son in The Puppet Masters (1994). Other credits include: Joe's So Mean to Josephine (1996), Samson and Delilah (1996) with Elizabeth Hurley and Dennis Hopper, The Wedding (1998) with Halle Berry, Snow Falling on Cedars (1998) and Mouth to Mouth (2005) with Ellen Paige. He has made a number of appearances on the Law and Order series. While continuing to act, Eric's interest over the last several years has expanded into production. For the independent feature film, “i,” he was not only producer, but writer/director/actor. In addition, in the past several years, he has been coaching other actors, and working behind the camera, shooting music videos in New York City. He offers an impressive level of skill and commitment to the alternate art form of short films
