Mother Nature has created great beauty in flowers, and the complementary colors of flowers can brighten any part of the home, from the kitchen to the family room to the bedroom.
If you purchase an assortment of flowers and leafy stems and put them into a water-filled jug or vase, you will have made a flower arrangement. Yet some of the plant material may be quite unsuitable and will quickly die, the colors may clash and the overall effect may be a mess.
Your private 3 to 4-hour experience will show you how to do better. The art and craft of displaying flowers begins at the Wholesale Flower Market on West 28th Street, where your guide, New York floral designer Valerie Chase, will help you choose the right sort of fresh flowers and foliage to custom decorate your home or apartment.
Valerie will accompany you and the flowers to your home or apartment where you will get to know the basic rules of color, shape, proportion, texture, and how to adapt them to suit your own taste and artistic talent. She will help you develop your own personal style by experimenting with different colors and types of flowers to compliment the décor and mood of the room.
You will learn to create a feature which will brighten up a spot in the house -- a bare shelf, an occasional table, an empty fireplace. It may be a geometric shape, a bunch of wildflowers in a jug, or a complex abstract arrangement. Or, you may need a display for a dinner party, the decoration for a special event, the wedding floral display and so on. With step-by-step instruction you will learn to make stunning displays which your family and friends will admire, opening up the world of artistic arrangements as an absorbing hobby.
All flowers and materials are included.
She is at the forefront of modern floral design in NYC, creating floral arrangements that have been seen on the pages of Architectural Digest and Metropolitan Home magazines. In the past twelve years she has had the opportunity to create floral arrangements for the Bloomberg offices, Five Star Restaurants, The Ritz Carlton, the homes of celebrities, Brooke Astor’s dinner parties and many of NY’s private clubs. She has taught floral design for renowned British designer and author Jane Packer at her flower school in The Conran Shop. As a designer she has also worked at one of the upper east side's best flower shops, L’olivier Floral Atelier and on many of NY’s most heralded events. Her company Citibouquet has developed innovative design workshops on creating personal floral designs that bring a harmonious balance to the home through proper use of scale, color, and placement. She is currently collaborating with several prominent European designers to create a new modern floral design school in NYC.
