Learn How to Play the Drums.
Since our ancestors first struck sticks and rocks against the ground, drumming has been a sacred ritual in many societies. It is a big part of various New Age movements. And in corporate America, musical management consultants are leading drum workshops to build team spirit. Through the rhythmic repetition of sounds, the body, brain and the nervous system are energized and transformed.

Whether you are new to the world of percussion or a player looking for new ideas, whether you are an aspiring rock musician or simply play on your own for relaxation, a one-on-one private lesson will give you a new edge on rhythm, improvisation, percussion craft, effects, sound, and performance skills. A good drum instructor/tutor is the most important step in learning to play the drums, so we've enlisted a top New York City professional with lots of knowledge to share.

In this unique, 2-hour experience, Mark Feldman will introduce you to the art of playing the drum set. A top notch professional level Gretsch drum kit is available for use in his Williamsburg, Brooklyn, studio. You can concentrate on one style of drumming or explore a range, including Latin, Brazilian, fusion, funk, jazz, or rock. He will show you which techniques are useful and skip patterns that are not. He believes in intelligently focused hard work to achieve results, while insuring the player does not fatigue prematurely due to forced, awkward posture or incorrect positioning of equipment.

After the lesson, head out to the local music store! Beginning drummers often end up spending a lot of extra money on things they don't need. Since it can be confusing when deciding which equipment and accessories to buy (or which ones you need), Mark will accompany you to the drum department of Main Drag Music, a 6000-square-foot music store (six blocks from the studio) to explore the wide array of new and vintage drums. He will offer advice on selecting the components of a playable starter set that fits your budget and discuss the various qualities of drums, cymbals, sticks, heads, hardware or anything else you want to know regarding drum equipment.
