Long Island extends 120 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, and its maritime climate, geography and soil characteristics provide ideal conditions for producing wines of exceptional quality. In little over quarter of a century, the Long Island wine industry has grown from one small vineyard to 3,000 acres of vines, as age-old growing techniques combine with state-of-the-art technology to produce a range of world-class wines from specific varietals and selected blends.
Whether you are a beginning wine drinker or a wine aficionado, this authentic one-of-a-kind "experience" allows individuals, couples, friends and corporate teams (from one or up to eight people) to participate in the creation of custom wine through a variety of weekend experiences, winemaking workshops, blending seminars, and events.
The winemaking experience takes the aspiring winemaker to Bella Vita Vineyard on Long Island's North Shore, where you begin at harvest and follow the wine through the entire process of creating a handcrafted wine. Pick your own wine grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, to name a few) during harvest time, then crush and de-stem the fruit to allow the fermentation process to begin. In subsequent visits you will be invited to press the grapes, select the various components comprising your blend, fill your own personal barrel, clarify and stabilize the wine in preparation for bottling, and design your own custom label. You choose how involved you want to be with your wine as you oversee your wine's journey from "berry to bottle," guided by expert winemakers, viticulturists, and vineyard owners, so you know that your vintage wine will be the same premium-quality you've come to expect from Long Island.
Offered is the opportunity to fully participate in the transformation of personally-picked grapes into a custom-made, privately-labeled wine, and take home 275 bottles (23 cases) to share with family and serve to friends. This unique experience is the perfect way to learn about wine and viticulture, and makes an excellent gift for any culinary enthusiast or wine connoisseur.
Bella Vita Vineyard is 80 miles from Manhattan. (Take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 73 and follow Route 58. At the traffic circle, you can continue east on Route 58, which becomes Route 25 (Main Road), to Cutchogue on Long Island's North Shore).
The heart of Long Island's flourishing wine country, Cutchogue is nestled between Long Island Sound and the Great Peconic Bay, on the North Fork. With its bucolic maritime setting, the village looks like a scene from an Impressionist painting, with the appeal of a "Napa Valley East." Cutchogue's Bella Vita Vineyard is the brainchild of Anthony Sannino, lead winemaker, who studied enology and viticulture at the American Mecca for wine education, the University of California, Davis. Anthony and wife Lisa have created the first Custom Winemakers' Center on the North Fork, where participants have the opportunity to be part of an exclusive hands-on winemaking experience.
