The name that has become synonymous with stained glass is Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the legendary jeweler, Charles Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co., New York City.

From the late Nineteenth Century through the early 20th Century, his Corona, New York, studio produced "opalescent art glass" widows for churches, public buildings, and private residences across the United States. With waste from window production running into the tons by 1899, Tiffany launched a new line of stained glass electric lamps to use up the scraps. Success of the Tiffany lamps was insured by the advent of Mr. Edison's incandescent bulbs. And Louis Tiffany set himself the goal of putting a Tiffany lamp in every household in America.

Meyda Tiffany is the successor to The Quality Bent Glass Company, a manufacturer that supplied the original Tiffany studios. In addition, Meyda uses Tiffany's hundred-year-old molds, tools and the technique of producing curved stained glass from 1300-degree kilns. Exquisite Meyda Tiffany lamps continue to grace such New York City landmarks as the venerable Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
