The Long, Tall Texan.

Lyndon Baines Johnson served as the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969 after his service as the Vice President of the United States from 1961 to 1963.

Johnson, a Democrat, succeeded to the presidency following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, completed Kennedy's term and was elected President in his own right, winning by a large margin in the 1964 Presidential election. Johnson was greatly supported by the Democratic Party and, as President, was responsible for designing the "Great Society" legislation that included laws that upheld civil rights, Medicare, Medicaid, environmental protection, aid to education, and his attempt to help the poor in his "War on Poverty."

Johnson was 6-feet-3-inches tall, and his massive bone structure and long, powerful limbs made him seem even taller. The chair he selected for the Oval Office was a good fit for his dynamic personality, with a super-reinforced, orthopedic-firm support structure, superior engineering, and unmatched aesthetics.

The chair's original design is faithfully replicated by Trinity Furniture to incorporate solid cherry hardwoods for all exposed-wood components, kiln-dried hardwoods on all unexposed wood frame members, and decorative nail trim in addition to 8-way hand tied coil springs. Crafted with a 360-degree swivel base and manual lift raises seat from 19 1/2" to 22" high; overall 28" W x 35" D. The interior frame of kiln-dried solid maple is double-doweled, corner-blocked, glued and screwed for extra strength. All frame components are made of high-density maple to strongly grips upholstery tacks for the supple, top-grain, leather. Each chair is performance-tested in accordance with GSA requirements.
