Off-Road Warrior.
The U.S. military was looking for stealthier, efficient and more effective ways to deploy their ground forces in combat. They needed to develop a vehicle as strong as a tank, light as a day pack, tough enough to drop from an airplane, durable enough to traverse any terrain, able to operate at high speeds with minimal maintenance, easy enough to fold into a portable size, yet agile enough to unfold in seconds. The result was a uniquely-designed All/Extreme Terrain Bicycle, and the Marines have deployed this tactical vehicle in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan.
A high-performance model available to civilians is based on the design created for the military. It's a 24-speed mountain bike with a lightweight aluminum frame, a front shock absorber, gripshift shifters, and 26-inch wheels. It folds simply, without the use of tools, by turning one quick release lever, compacts in less than 30 seconds into a 3' x 3' x 1' pack for easy portability or storage next to your desk at work, or in the back of a car. The military uses them because they can be easily carried for airdrops, thrown in the back of a truck, or strapped to the side of a tank. Civilian bike owners find their bikes easy to travel with on trains and commercial airline flights.
In standard-issue cammouflage green, the bike also has Marine spec pedals and compass, 1.95" front- and rear-specific knobby tires, alloy V-brakes and a 24-speed Shimano drive train. The Marine-tough A/ETB weighs in at 29 pounds.
