Well before The New York Times called him "one of 30 artists who will change our culture," Über-artisan John Carter was combining provocative insights with a whimsical approach that makes art work as social commentary. Always pushing to engage minds and provoke thought, John's current focus is on edgy interior designs, eye-opening displays, and interactive, animated sculpture.
The self-described “guerilla street artist” starts with a real, working New York City "Walk/Don't Walk" sign with all the genuine scuffs and stains of its New York City roots. He makes the legs from reconfigured, customized steel street sign brackets, with galvanized, heavy-duty self-leveling feet. Seating surfaces have been reglazed with one-inch-thick polished resin, and cushioned with felt suspension. The one-of-a-kind chair plugs into a standard 115V AC wall outlet and includes a remote control to turn the signs on and off. Uses standard replaceable light bulbs. (33” L x 24" W x 35" H). Handmade in New York City.
