The long-awaited New York counterpart to Paris’s Buddha Bar is lush with small trees that lend a tropical to the setting. Candlelight dancing on glass liquor shelves and a cluster of golden Buddhas give the bar area a soothing, almost hypnotic quality. Of particular note is the generous open area perfect for grooving to the sultry, varied hip-hop, world and house music.

Buddha Bar CDs are everywhere and BMW drivers from Berlin to Buenos Aires have every volume in their CD racks. The eighth and latest volume has arrived. Compiled by Sam Popat, resident DJ at the original Paris Buddha Bar since its creation, the magical opus includes exceptional titles including "White" by Naomi, "Lost in Reflection" by Pompon Finkelstein, and "I Feel You" by Schiller. Based on music heard at the Paris and New York clubs, each track is a mesmerizing wonder, expertly chosen and sequenced, each perfectly fitting like pieces in a puzzle.

From his ethnic diversity (born in Madagascar with Indian parents), Sam Popat knows quickly how to survive in the Parisian Jungle but also in the Urban Temple of New York. In these twin CDs, he creates his own musical style, spiced blend of Tribal House and fusion, and makes his artistic mark.
