Timeless New York.
Tile is the one interior decoration that transcends fashion, time and place. Over the centuries and in every advanced civilization, tile has been recognized for its beauty, longevity and ease of maintenance. Creative art, timeless materials, and traditional craftsmanship combine to add durable beauty to your home for generations.
While Times Square has changed dramatically over the past century, it has remained a symbol again for the vibrancy of Manhattan. Individual images of Times Square, as it appeared in each of four decades, have been digitally hand printed onto tumbled Botticino marble quarried in Italy.
With a centuries-old heat-pressing technique, each image is embedded into the tile. Each tile has its own character, shade and texture, the whole charm of natural stone. Pieces assume a matte finish with pitting, veining and irregular, rounded edges as a result of processing. The set of four 4-inch-square decoratives are cork-backed for use as coasters. They are heat resistant and dishwasher safe, making them a perfect, house warming or hostess gift. These striking marble coasters come in a Gift Box Set of four.
Throughout most of its history, New York Harbor has been the most important port in the United States and furnished one of the principal means by which passengers and goods were transported to and from New York City and the rest of the country. Entering the Upper Bay by a passenger ship provides for the first glimpse of the Statue of Liberty and became the hallmark image representing the immigrant experience during the late 19th and early 20th century.
An historic map of New York Harbor has been embedded into a six-inch-square piece of Botticino marble, then turned into a timepiece, supported by a wooden display stand.
It was a time of great optimism, ambition and extravagance in New York. The city was vying with London for the longest and most complex subway system in the world. The great map of subway lines in Manhattan in 1924, showing extensions that were still not completed, have been digitally hand-printed onto a set of 4 tumbled Botticino marble tiles. A "forgotten New York" devotee's dream come true.
No other art form captures New York like black & white photography. The
sharp architectural lines, the contrast between steel & sky, the shadows of
light and dark from the impossibly tall skyscrapers make color an
unnecessary distraction. Romantic, bold and beautiful, these black and white
photos have been digitally hand-printed onto a set of 4 tumbled Botticino
marble tiles.
