Down to the Wire.
They produce objects of utility, pleasure, and symbolic meaning. Artists whose medium is industrial metal have condensed the breadth of architecture into tangible visual forms, each a technical challenge to artistic expression. Think of their work as interactive sculpture: simultaneously art and design, form and function. With a jeweler's meticulous attention to detail and an engineer's drive to construct urban trophies, they handcraft unexpected wire sculptures that represent New York City culture.
Skyscraper as Abstract Art.
The modern art of wire design captures the 102-story skyscraper in the heart of Manhattan, named by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The Empire State Building is a designated landmark of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and confirmed by the New York City Board of Estimate. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986. Interpreted in wire sculpture, the piece stand 12.5-inches tall.
