Gallagher’s was founded in 1927 by Helen Gallagher, a former Ziegfield girl, wife of Edward Gallagher (of the vaudeville duo Gallagher and Shean), and partner of Jack Solomon, a colorful gambler who raised prime Angus cattle on his Long Island estate.  Since 1964 Gallagher's has been owned by Jerome Brody, famed restaurateur and businessman, breeder of champion Registered Black Angus and Thoroughbred Horses.  Then as now, Gallagher's hosts sports, theatrical and political celebrities.

Once liquor was legal, Gallagher's evolved into Broadway's first steakhouse, with plank floors, wood-paneled walls and red checked tablecloths, a retreat from the formal, plush elegance that was in favor as restaurant décor. But, Gallagher's reputation as a New York institution is based on the finest cuts of perfectly-aged beef.

Dry aging is a time-honored technique at Gallagher's. All beef is hung in a refrigerated cooler, at a specific temperature and humidity, for 21 days after harvest and prior to cutting into steaks. This natural aging method not only makes the steaks more tender, but concentrates flavor and produces meat that is superb in taste and texture.

Orders may be placed throughout the week up until 12 Noon on Tuesday for a Friday delivery. Orders received after 12 Noon on Tuesday will ship on the following Wednesday.
