Carlyle Hotel Ashtray

$89.00

When it opened in 1930, the hotel became a destination for Hollywood celebrities, socialites, and politicians (JFK owned an apartment on the tenth floor and Marilyn Monroe used to sneak in through the service entrance on East 77th Street).

Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Carter and Reagan are among other President who have stayed at the Carlyle while in office. Named after Scottish essayist Thomas Carlyle, the hotel has featured a number of well-known jazz performers (notably Bobby Short, a fixture there from 1968 to 2004) and Woody Allen and his jazz band have been playing weekly at the Café Carlyle since 1996.

Once icons of hospitality and glamour, ashtrays are part of Americana that now belongs to the past. Offering an ashtray from the golden age of glamorous smoking, now out of use along with cigarettes, but desirable for its connection to the culture of New York City in the twentieth century.
