Get Into the Tank with a Pool Shark

$169.00

A game of billiards is a total immersion experience for mind and body. It demands the concentration of chess, the risk management of poker, and the touch of golf. The sound of clicking balls seems to make the incessant clamoring of the outside world at least temporarily go away.

The roster of billiards players is a who's who of political potentates, great thinkers, artistic geniuses, and celebrities. It included the likes of Louis XIV, Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Immanuel Kant, Mozart, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, 50 Cent, Jerry Seinfeld, Eric Clapton, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Offered is a one-hour private clinic with Tony Robles, New York-based professional pool player and an effective teacher of the noble pursuit, providing a unique opportunity for the beginner or advanced player. Instruction includes the overall fundamentals of American-style eight-ball.

Looking for an edge in your game? Tony will improve your mechanics, including stance, grip and stroke, providing the solid foundation needed to elevate your game to the next level. You will learn the 5-4-3-2-1 Position System, personally developed by Tony in his quest to achieve dead-on accuracy for cue ball contact point and master position play. Learn to recognize the key short in a rack and how to execute the proper pattern to successfully run out consistently. Learn to develop a sophisticated arsenal of defensive strategies, as well as practice drills and routines to further your improvement. Most important, learn the importance of a sound and focused mind. In keeping with the sport's mystical origins, Tony reveals the secret of aiming angle shots by visualizing a so-called ghost ball adjacent to an intended object ball.

The private lesson takes place at the Amsterdam Billiard Club or Soho Billiards.

About Tony Robles
He is the best professional billiards player in New York, winner of 30 major tournaments. At 13 years of age his dad introduced Tony to the crisp sound of balls draining into the pockets at the local pool hall in Brooklyn's Bushwick section. After graduating from high school, Tony dedicated himself to perfecting his game, practicing 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for over two years. At age twenty-one, he turned pro. His nickname, the "Silent Assassin," was bestowed upon him during the 1995 World Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C. After soundly defeating one of the top pros by an 11-2 score, a fan approached Robles to congratulate him. Commenting on the accomplishment, the fan noted that it was "just another day at the office" for the fast-rising shark. Tony's ability to unexpectedly and resoundingly knock off top pros, the fan concluded, was like that of a "silent assassin." The moniker stuck, and has accompanied him over the past nine years as he, not quite so silently, ascends the ranks of the world's elite pool players. He is currently ranked #6 by Pool and Billiards Magazine, and #9 by Billiard's Digest, as he sets his sights on a lifelong goal of winning the world's championship. Among the career highlights considered most important to Tony is a run of 113 balls he accomplished during the 1992 Straight Ball Championship held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Other highlights of Tony's career include high runs of eight straight racks in 9-ball and five straight racks in 8-ball. He also boasts a high run in straight pool of 267 balls.
