House of Chan Ashtray

House of Chan Ashtray

$145.00

Sou Chan, son of a poor Chinese farmer, came to America in 1929 and found his first job as a dishwasher in a Chinese restaurant. Twenty years later, his famous House of Chan, located in New York City but known from coast to coast, was legendary for its authentic Chinese food and for the genial hospitality of its host.

Once icons of hospitality and glamour, ashtrays are part of Americana that now belongs to the past. Offering an ashtray from the golden age of glamorous smoking, now out of use along with cigarettes, but desirable for its connection to the culture of New York City in the twentieth century.
