Where the Nosh was Posh. Lou G. Siegel's, where New Yorkers have been eating since 1917, closed after lunch on June 28, 1996. The lease had expired at 209 W. 38th St., where Siegel's operated since 1921. The fabled Old-World-style kosher restaurant served its garment district customers bowls of schmaltz (chicken fat) on the table, which everybody smeared on onion rolls.

Once icons of hospitality and glamour, ashtrays are part of Americana that now belongs to the past. Offering an ashtray from the golden age of glamorous smoking, now out of use along with cigarettes, but desirable for its connection to the culture of New York City in the twentieth century.
