It's All Very Nöel Coward.
|
Celebrated playwright Noel Coward would never have been caught dead without a full Martini glass and a tailor-made tuxedo. Maybe that's why he always ended up at "marvelous parties."
The characters in his plays spend a significant amount of time mixing and drinking martinis. In Blithe Spirit, he used martinis as a sign that his characters were modern, sophisticated, not about to be taken in by out-of-date notions like ghosts.
Start with these elegant, swellegant 6-ounce Martini glasses (props in the Broadway revival of Private Lives), add shaker, jigger, ice, gin and vermouth -- and turn the cocktail hour into an occasion, the scene from a Noel Coward play.

Required Reading.
Noel Coward was arguably one of the single most talented individuals alive in the twentieth century. Astonishingly versatile, he did it all and did it well, writing plays (both drama and comedy), book musicals, revues, short stories and a novel. As songwriter he wrote both music and lyrics in operetta, up-tempo novelties, sophisticated love songs, and torchy ballads. The NEW YORK FIRST Company has acquired a limited number of previously-owned 1937 First Editions of Noel Coward's remarkable autobiography, Present Indicative. Offered for sale (fascinating stuff).
