Housing six million books, the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue is one of the great research institutions in the world. Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
Upstairs on the third floor, the magisterial Rose Main Reading Room, about the size of a football field, is one of the world's grandest library interiors. It has original chandeliers, oak tables, and bronze reading lamps that provide scholars, researchers, and writers with clean, bright, focused light.
The handsome Reading Room Lamp is based on the original design by architects Carrere & Hastings, adapted for the home by legendary designer Bill Blass. The distinctive lamp features turned stem detailing with a weighty bronze base to ensure stability on a flat surface. Hand-rubbed finish provides a rich, vintage look in the bedroom, study, office, or home library. Read or write under its authoritative gaze.
Twin 60-watt bulbs (not included) provide ample illumination, while the shade prevents direct glare from shining in a reader's eyes. An exposed pull chain connected to each light bulb socket allows readers to switch on one or both bulbs for personalized lighting preference. The white coating inside its brass shade to efficiently reflect and direct light onto reading materials or a desk or table top. Plugs into a standard household outlet via a 12-foot cord. The original-size Reading Room Lamp is 31-inches tall, with the maximum diameter of the shade 15-inches and the base 8-inches in diameter, as used by NYPL.
