History
The NEW YORK FIRST Company is the result of the evolution of an idea.
For over twenty years, we operated Turback's of Ithaca, an upscale restaurant in the enlightened town of Ithaca, New York. It was at Turback's that we developed the concept of “New York First.” On a mission to showcase the bounty of New York's food and wine, the restaurant's embrace of all things New York attracted national attention and loyal following.
The original Made-in-New York Stores were spin-offs of the Turback's concept, selling not only food and wine, but eventually a wide range of uniquely New York products -- first as retail shops in Ithaca and Corning, New York, then as a national mail order catalog. Encouraged by the possibilities of the Internet, the next step was a shopping site, launched in 1997 as The NEW YORK FIRST Company, the "first" online department store.

Using an innovative "elevator" (developed by the remarkable people at Cyrus Company) as a navigational tool, shoppers are able to easily locate products in categories or “floors.” We've expanded shopping choices beyond “Made in New York” to include original, witty, or simply the best-of-its-kind gifts, supported by prompt, personal attention, and commitment to community and
