New York's Gold Standard.
Like so much of America, Gold's Horseradish was conceived in a Brooklyn apartment during the depths of the Great Depression. Beginning in 1932 at 832 Coney Island Avenue, Polish immigrants Tillie and Hyman Gold did all the work by hand. Cleaning, cutting, and grating the horseradish roots; measuring and mixing the ingredients; filling the jars; pasting on the labels (with paste made at home with flour and water), all by hand, one jar at a time. As Tillie grated the pungent herb (her eyes and nose streaming) her husband, Hyman, filled slim, six-sided jars with the stuff and started peddling them to local groceries. Gradually the business grew from pushcart to bike to truck to the suburbs, where a third generation of Golds now runs the business, somewhat fanatically. Morris Gold came up with the slogan "we do the crying for you."

Wake up your palate with a trio of Gold's specialties: Original Horseradish Sauce, Wasabi Sauce, and Deli Mustard, in 10-ounce "squeeze" bottles. Make the perfect dip, spread, or add pizazz to gefilte fish, salmon, brisket, turkey (or any sandwich), latkes, sushi, and Bloody Marys. Possibilities are endless.
